Gretchen has worked in the health information management and healthcare business field for many years and enjoys sharing her experience with students entering the field. She is the Director of Healthcare Business & Health Information Management and previously served as an Associate Professor at Clarkson College since 2010. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management with a Minor in Natural Science from College of Saint Mary and her Master’s degree in Health Information Management from the College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. In May 2021, she earned a Post-Graduate Certificate in Informatics from the College of Saint Scholastica.  

Along with teaching, Ms. Jopp has been involved in department management, coding, billing, oncology research, and education. She has served on the Faculty Senate, Higher Learning Commission re-accreditation committee, and Interprofessional Clinical Committee at the College. Through her work, she earned the Patricia Book Perry Faculty of the Year Award in 2016 and the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014. 

Ms. Jopp is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Nebraska Health Information Management Association (NHIMA), American Academy of Professional Coders and National Society for Leadership and Success (NSLS). She has served on the AHIMA House of Delegates and in 2016, earned the NHIMA Distinguished Member Award. Gretchen has provided editorial review for health information management texts and has recently co-authored a medical coding text published by the American Health Information Management Association.
