Kristen Villarreal has been teaching in the Undergraduate Nursing department since 2015, and serves as the RN-BSN Coordinator. She received an Associate of Nursing degree (ADN) from College of Saint Mary in 2005. She then received a Master of Science (MSN), Nurse Educator, degree in 2014, and a Doctor of Education (EdD), Public Health Policy, degree in 2023, from Nebraska Methodist College. Her nursing background is in pediatrics, NICU, and school nursing. Her areas of research and interest include food insecurity, childhood obesity, and the emotional well-being of nursing students.

Dr. Villarreal has a passion for nursing education and community health, and participates in multiple committees and organizations at the College and in the community, including the Personnel committee and chairing the Due Process Committee. She also leads the RN to BSN Workforce Sponsorship Program taskforce with Nebraska Medicine. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society and the Nebraska League for Nursing as well.
