Dr. Smith has devoted over 35 years to serving as an educator, ally, and advocate for individuals with disabilities, their families, and their caregivers. She currently serves as vice president of the Board of Directors, on the Advisory Board, and in fundraising for a nonprofit organization serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), stroke, and the elderly. In addition, Dr. Smith serves as vice president of the Clarkson College Alumni Board of Directors, and she serves Clarkson College in committee work, including dissertation research committees and the Interprofessional Education Committee, among others.

In 2022, Dr. Smith established the Dr. Jenette Smith Endowed Scholarship to support our Clarkson College EDD students.

Dr. Smith joined Clarkson College as a faculty member in the Doctor of Education (EdD) in Healthcare Education and Leadership program in 2021. She holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Healthcare Education and Leadership from Clarkson College, a certified Diplomate in Lifestyle Medicine (DipACLM) from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and a Master of Science degree in Health Education/Studies in Aging from the University of North Texas. In addition, Dr. Smith completed a course certification in mediation and conflict management from Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation in 2023 and is enrolled in 2024 in further coursework and learning in difficult conversations.

Dr. Smith's career in health care education includes serving in teaching and leadership positions in higher education, inclusive higher education, and nonprofit organizations serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), Alzheimer's disease, stroke, and the elderly.
